Biomes or regions of interest:

Andes, Cerrado, Campos Rupestres, Atlantic Forest

Research interests:

The research of our group is focussed on the evaluation of phylogenetic
relationships among higher plant taxa, speciation processes, biogeography, and
the evolution of important traits and characters. Our investigations are mainly
at the species level or above, but also include population genetic analyses and
phylogeography. Within the Neotropics, we are interested in elucidating the phylogeny,
evolution and biogeography of the members of subfamily Pitcairnioideae s.str. (Bromeliaceae),
including the genera Fosterella, Deuterocohnia, Dyckia and Pitcairnia. Our main
areas and biomes of interest are (1) the Andes
and (2) the Cerrado of Brazil and adjacent countries.
